 2018 Preview 


       Marion County finished the 2017 season with a disappointing 2-8 record. Last year Marion County just missed making the playoffs with a fifth place finish in Class 1A region five with a 2-4 region record.

       The defense allowed a team record 419 points last season.

       Marion County struggled on the defensive side of the football last year. The defense found little success in stopping opposing offenses as they gave up an average of 41.9 points a game.

       The Red Raiders would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 4-16 record. Since 2010, Marion County has gone a combined 55-41. Their 57.0% winning percentage ranks 17th in Class 1A over the past eight seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Marion County has managed to compile a record of 144-120. Their 54.0% winning percentage ranks 18th in Class 1A and 150th in the AHSAA.




       The Red Raiders are led by head coach Kyle Williams who is entering his third season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 4-16 over the past two seasons at Marion County. The Red Raiders have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Williams.

       Coach Williams' overall record as a head football coach in two season stands at 4-16 (20.0%).

       The Marion County Red Raiders will play in Class 1A region six during the 2018 season. Following realignment, the Red Raiders remain in 1A but move from region five over to region six. The Red Raiders have one of the toughest schedules in Class 1A. Their opponents had a combined record of 59-45 last season. That ranks 6th in Class 1A and 66th in the AHSAA.

       It will be an uphill battle for the Red Raiders if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region six this season. After just 2 wins last year, Marion County will be hoping to become more competitive in the region.

      

       The Red Raiders open the 2018 season on the road against non-region opponent Vina on Friday, August 24 at Franklin-Hester Stadium. Last year the Vina Red Devils finished with an overall record of 1-9 and in fifth place in Class 1A region eight.

       Marion County and Vina have met a total of 16 times on the football field. The Red Raiders have a 13-3-0 record against the Red Devils. They last met in 1993 with Marion County winning by a score of 28-0.
